Track & Field

2024 registration has limited availability

Registration is now closed, although we do have a few spots available for each grade. Please email trackdirector@andoverathletic.com to inquire about a spot. We may not be able to guarantee friend requests or shirt sizes.

Notes and Updates for 2024!

For 2024, all meets and our field event clinic will be held at Andover High School but many of our practices will be held at Oak View Middle School due to demand for the high school stadium.  Practices will be scheduled by team and will generally occur on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday evenings.  Some Sunday practices may also be available.

Registration and Volunteer Fee Structure

The registration for track & field includes the base $75 registration fee ($65 early registration through February 4th) payable at time of registration and participating families also agree to a $100 installment on June 13, 2024 if they have not completed their volunteer duties by that time.  This results in the total shown of $175 ($165 early) but only $75 or $65 due at registration.

AAA Track & Field asks each family to complete at least one volunteer shift (regardless of number of athletes in the program) through our DIBS volunteer system at a track meet during the season and if they do so the $100 volunteer fee payment will be canceled, leaving a net $75 rate ($65 early registration).    Volunteer shifts typically last around two hours and involve things like timing races, measuring field event results, etc.  Those who serve as head or assistant coaches will also have their family's volunteer fees waived.

If for some reason a family is physically unable to volunteer at a meet, please contact trackdirector@andoverathletic.com to work out alternate arrangements to help make the program successful.  We rely on hundreds of parent volunteers to make our program successful and our goal is to ensure all who are willing to volunteer during the season are able to do so.  We'd like nothing more than to cancel all of those $100 end of season installment payments!

About AAA Track & Field

About AAA Track & Field

Our program welcomes kids in grades K-5 from Andover, Minnesota and all surrounding communities.  No equipment is needed except a pair of running/tennis shoes (no spikes).

Meets

Kids will compete in four meets (weather permitting).  Meets are tentatively scheduled for Saturdays in late April through mid-May.

For 2024, meets are held at Andover High School and are  scheduled for:

April 27

May 4

May 11

May 18

Meets last about 2 hours for an individual age group (less for the K-1st grade group), though kids are free to leave with parents when their events for the day are completed so individuals are often done sooner.  We do ask that parents stay at the meets while their children are participating.  If it is necessary to leave the meet, please check in with the coach to let him or her know.

Events are tailored to grade level and include (as appropriate) sprints, relays, hurdles, middle distance, long jump, high jump, standing broad jump, and shot put or softball throw.

Meet Format

In 2021, we modified the meet format to keep individual age groups separate, manage the number of people in the stadium at a given time, and keep each age group's meets shorter.  This format is anticipated to continue in the future but is subject to change at the discretion of the director and with input from our track & field committee.

4th-5th Grade Events Begin at 8:00am

2nd-3rd Grade Events Begin at 10:30am

K-1st Grade Events Begin at 12:30pm

Practices

Practice schedules vary by team and are subject to individual team coaches' schedules.  In 2024, each team will have at least one indoor practice and will be initially scheduled for 3 outdoor practices plus the meet & greet / field event clinic.   Many of our practices will be held at Oak View Middle School while meets and other events will be held at Andover High School.  Practice schedules will be posted in early April.

The early registration cost is just $65 through the end of the early registration period, February 4th.  After that date, the price rises to the general $75 registration fee through March 10.  You'll find this program to be among the best values in youth sports in our region.  Athletes will receive a high quality performance style AAA Track shirt, drawstring backpack, and water bottle and compete for ribbons in all events.  All competitors receive a ribbon based on their place in each track event and based on pre-set standards in field events.

Volunteer Requirements

AAA Track & Field is powered by a small army of volunteers at each meet...over 60 volunteers each Saturday are needed to help with timing races, measuring field events, awarding ribbons, and providing general assistance to coaches, athletes, and families.

We ask  each family in our program to complete at least one volunteer shift during the season.  Those signed up to be a head or assistant coach or pre-paid the volunteer opt-out fee are not required to complete an additional shift.

The instructions below are based on the 2022 DIBS setup but it is exactly the same in 2024 with just the year update.

To sign up for your shift, please complete the following steps:

  • Go to andoverathletic.com and sign in (upper right hand corner)
  • Select the Dibs link from the top menu on the home page
  • Click on 2024 Track & Field Volunteers
  • Filter based on dates you choose and Status (Claimed or Unclaimed) to find a shift that works for you

Families who indicated they would volunteer at a meet during the season but do not complete a shift will have a $100 volunteer fee charged to their payment method after the season is over.   We would much rather have your volunteer time than the $100 fee...your time is needed to make the season successful for all of our kids!

Below is a short video on using the Dibs tool for AAA Track & Field.

AAA Track & Field Parent Guide

The 2024 Parent Guide is linked below.  In addition, please see below the Order of Events and Track Layout.  Note that the Order of Events does not contain times for specific events, just the start of each division's events.  Track meet events are not set based on a precise time of day but rather follow each other sequentially.  Leaving the site mid-meet is strongly discouraged as you may not be able to return before your child's next event.

New Family Meeting Slides

Prior to each season we hold an information session for families new to our program.  After the new family meeting, the slides and link to the recorded presentation will be posted here.

Thanks for a great 2022 season!

Many thanks to the 522 young athletes who competed in our 2022 program and a special thanks to all of our head and assistant coaches who put in the extra work to provide guidance and organization for their teams!  Registration for the 2024 season is now open!

In the meantime, please check out the 2022 Parent Survey Results from our end of season survey!  Thank you to all who completed it and provided their input, appreciation, and suggestions for improvement.

Volunteer Information

As a reminder, each family participating in AAA Track & Field is asked to provide one volunteer for one shift at a meet during the course of the season.  Exceptions are granted to those families providing a head or assistant coach and those who paid the opt out fee for each child at the time of registration.  Information on fulfilling your volunteer commitments will be available closer to the start of the  season.

Are you a high school student or community member just looking to do some volunteering?  Need volunteer credit for National Honor Society, Scouts, or other organizations?   We'd love to have you help.  If you are interested in volunteering (but not to fulfill a family member's commitment per the paragraph above), please e-mail the director at trackdirector@andoverathletic.com!
