Registration for the 2020 season of Andover Athletic Association Track & Field is still being accepted with limited spots remaining!
Please e-mail email@example.com to inquire about available spots and receive a registration link.
Among the new things in store for 2020 are revised processes for scheduling make-up meets due to weather cancellations in case our unpredictable spring weather creates problems on meet days!
About AAA Track & Field
Our program welcomes kids in grades K-5 from Andover, Minnesota and all surrounding communities. No equipment is needed except a pair of running/tennis shoes (no spikes).
Kids will compete in 4 Saturday meets (weather permitting). For the 2020 season, meets are TENTATIVELY scheduled for:
All meets are held at Andover High School. Meets last about 3 hours for an individual age group, though kids are free to leave with parents when their events for the day are completed so individuals are often done sooner. We do ask that parents stay at the meets as much as possible. If it is necessary to leave the meet, please check in with the coach to let him or her know.
Events are tailored to grade level and include (as appropriate) sprints, relays, hurdles, middle distance, long jump, high jump, standing broad jump, and shot put or softball throw.
Beginning in 2017, AAA Track & Field adopted a new meet format that helped move each age group through their races and field events more quickly, resulting in decreased time between races for kids at the track. In 2018 and 2019, we successfully maintained this format. The 2020 format will depend upon registration numbers in each division and are subject to change but for reference start times for each age group for 2019 are listed below. Please note these are subject to change at the discretion of the director and with input from our track & field committee. Times marked as estimated are due to the reliance on the previous group completing certain events on the track.
4th-5th Grade Events Begin at 8:30am
2nd-3rd Grade Events Begin at 10:30am (estimated)
K-1st Grade Events Begin at 11:30am (estimated)
Practice schedules vary somewhat by team and are subject to the schedules of Andover High School spring sports. In 2020, each team will once again have at least one indoor practice. After being snowed out in 2018 and 2019, we hope to bring back the very successful field event clinic for the 2020 season as well. 2-3 additional practices will be scheduled and the schedule is determined by the availability of the high school track with input from our coaches.
The early registration cost is just $59 through the end of the early registration period, Saturday, February 29. After that date, the price rises to $69 through registration close Monday, March 9. You'll find this program to be among the best values in youth sports in our region. Athletes will receive a high quality performance style AAA Track shirt, drawstring backpack, and water bottle and compete for ribbons in all events. All competitors receive a ribbon based on their place in each track event and based on pre-set standards in field events.
Important Dates for the 2020 Season
The 2019 Parent Guide is linked below. In addition, please see below the Order of Events and Track Layout. Note that the Order of Events does not contain times. Track meet events are not set based on a precise time of day but rather follow each other sequentially. Leaving the site mid-meet is strongly discouraged as you may not be able to return before your child's next event.
Prior to each season we hold an information session for families new to our program. Please see below the slides from the 2019 meeting. Most of the material will apply for 2020 as well with the exception that we have modified our weather rescheduling policies and process to assist in getting more meets in when challenging stretches of spring weather occur.
As a reminder, each family participating in AAA Track & Field is asked to provide one volunteer for one shift at a meet during the course of the season. Exceptions are granted to those families providing a head or assistant coach and those who paid the opt out fee for each child at the time of registration. Information on fulfilling your volunteer commitments will be available closer to the start of the 2018 season.
Are you a high school student or community member just looking to do some volunteering? Need volunteer credit for National Honor Society, Scouts, or other organizations? We'd love to have you help. If you are interested in volunteering (but not to fulfill a family member's commitment per the paragraph above), please e-mail the director at firstname.lastname@example.org!
